“We are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. We live by faith, not by sight.”

2 Corinthians 5:6-7
“Out of sight, out of mind” is a phrase that means we tend to forget things or people when they aren’t present. It’s not just an issue of memory. It’s a clue to who or what is important to us.

But what about Jesus? How important are we to Him? Now that He ascended, are we “out of sight, out of mind”?

No, indeed! By taking His resurrection body into heaven, Jesus took us with Him because we are always on His mind. Everything He is doing now in heaven is for our benefit. Even during the ten days before He sent His Holy Spirit, Jesus had His people on His heart. Consider our passage from Acts 1.

While the assembled believers waited, they addressed the problem of Judas’ betrayal and suicide. His death had left them with eleven who had witnessed all the events of Jesus’ life, from His baptism to His resurrection. The twelfth spot needed to be filled.

Two qualified men were put forward. How would they choose? They would call on Jesus, their ascended Lord, who would make it clear to them. In doing so, they were beginning to walk by faith.

Acts 1:12-26

Insight

Because Jesus has ascended and we can no longer see Him, He calls us to “walk by faith, not by sight” which takes much courage.
