“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf.”

Hebrews 6:19-20
Yesterday we considered the question, “Who ascended?” Today we ask, “What titles was He given?”

We each have a given name, the one that appears on our birth certificate. But we also have titles, like “the babysitter” or “my favorite cousin.”

In today’s verses, Jesus is called both “an anchor” and “our forerunner.” These titles are vivid pictures of what He does for us. They give us a peek at His work after He disappeared into the clouds.

As an anchor, Jesus is our security. Our faith might be weak, but His grip is firm. He will not give way or let go. Our hope is secure because Jesus anchors us to Himself.

As our forerunner, Jesus is the only one to cross the finish line into heaven on the strength of His perfectly obedient life. That may not sound like good news to us, because our disobedient life trips us up constantly. But because Jesus is our forerunner, all who trust Him can be confident that He will take us across the finish line, too.

Friends, entrust all your hopes and fears to Jesus, our stronghold and our Man in heaven.
