“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

Galatians 6:2
In the New Testament, the phrase “one another” or “each other” appears 100 times. The Christian life is something we take on together.

One fall day I was coaching a cross-country practice when temperatures were in the low 40s with wind, rain, and sleet. I ran alongside several of the girls, knowing it would be a hard practice in those conditions. Together, we endured the 6-mile run. However, as we arrived back at school, I discovered that one of the girls was still out running. When I went back out to find her and asked if she’d like me to run with her for those last two miles, she said tearfully, “Yes, Coach. I can’t do it alone!”

The two of us ran together that day while everyone else was leaving. Her demeanor changed as we ran side by side in the torrential rain and sleet. It was a powerful lesson to me of how God calls us to “carry each other’s burdens.” We were never meant to carry them alone. When we come alongside of each other, we display in tangible ways how Christ has carried for us our sin, shame, grief, and trials of every kind.
