“To the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in the truth—and not I only, but also all who know the truth—because of the truth, which lives in us and will be with us forever.”

2 John 1-2
John opens his letter with a simple statement of love and commitment to truth. The “chosen lady and her children” was a community of believers deeply loved by John. Many lived by God’s truth, expressing Christian love to others. John wrote, “It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth” (v. 4). Their lives displayed the gospel. In a culture of opposition and false teachers, they offered hope.

The world hasn’t changed much since John wrote his letters urging followers to walk in love, watch out, and obey. I’m honored to have a weekly Bible study with law enforcement officers where we seek to remain rooted in Christ and be alert to dangers that would cause our faith to drift.

In a good marriage, the longer and better the spouses know each other, the more they want to serve each other. Similarly, when you grow in your understanding of who God is, the gratitude in your heart begins to change you. You want to get involved and serve, even in ways that seem unimportant by human standards.
