“Our … troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”

2 Corinthians 4:17
In Psalm 139:14-16, David tells of his joy that God knew the course of his life even before he was born. But the race marked out for us does not always go the way we’d like it to.

For me, a devastating stroke at age 44 turned my entire family’s world upside down. It caused the racecourse of my life to take a dramatic and unwanted turn. But the new course I was dropped into and the years since have helped me to very slowly trust God and not lean on my own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). I trust that He will work all things together for good (Romans 8:28). I know that if I don’t get back on the course as I would like, still I will be able to rejoice in Him (Habakkuk 3:17-19).

When Kori coached cross-country, she and I marked out a challenging course for her team to practice and compete on. She convinced her runners that having a difficult home course gave them an advantage. The racecourse God has marked out for you may feel brutal, but its hardship cannot be compared with the eternal weight of glory He has in store for us.
