“So this is what the Sovereign LORD says: ‘See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who trusts will never be dismayed.’"

Isaiah 28:16

When my husband and I were visiting friends at their home, we noticed the neighbor’s front porch was caving in. We were surprised to learn that the lavish, two-year-old house had been built on a huge sandbank. The unfortunate owners saw firsthand the absolute necessity of a firm foundation.

Construction 101: A house is only as secure as the foundation it is built on. The Bible teaches this principle time and time again. In Luke 6, Jesus tells of a man who “dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock” (v. 48). When the floods came, the house was not shaken because it was built on such a solid foundation. However, the house built on nothing but sand collapsed and was destroyed (v. 49).

In time, anything you’ve ever based your life on will be tested. We all know how quickly good reputations, financial security, health, and even family can crumble and dissolve. But God has laid a trusted Cornerstone, Jesus, who cannot be shaken. His Word stands forever (1 Peter 1:25). That’s the foundation I want to build upon!
