Now where did I put my car keys? After checking all the likely places—purse, pockets, counter—I start to look in the unlikely ones, like the dog’s crate.

When Jesus ascended, He disappeared from sight. Everyone wondered, Where did He go? He went up to the most welcoming of places: heaven.

Over 50 years ago, the first Soviet cosmonaut returned from space to report allegedly, “I looked and looked and looked, but I didn’t see God.” Mockers are blinded, not just by unbelief, but also by misunderstanding the Scriptures.

Peter answered the “where” question when he preached his first sermon, ten days after Jesus ascended. In it he explained that Jesus had been exalted “at the right hand of God” (Acts 2:33). Jesus didn’t just rise higher than we can see with satellites. He changed locations. No longer was He on earth; He was in a different realm entirely.

And not only is He in heaven, but also He is seated on the highest throne, ensuring victory—victory over sin in our life in the here and now, and final victory over death at the end of our days.
