“I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth.”

Job 19:25
One of the things that I love about Scripture are the names used to describe God. He is our Redeemer, and through His Son we are His children, carrying His name with us. We have the privilege of calling Him Father; we have the assurance that He will always welcome us.

Does this exclude us from afflictions? Unfortunately, no. Troubles crash on us like waves and drive us to Him, sometimes humbly, sometimes angrily; other times scared, crushed in spirit, or heartbroken. As believers, we all can hold tight to Job’s declaration in the middle of great hardship: that our Redeemer lives and in the end will stand victorious on this earth. But for now, we wait. We wait for the heartbreak to heal, or at least ache a little less. We wait for what could be as we strain to fix our eyes on Christ.

But you and I don’t wait in vain. Like Jacob, we limp along, the Lord at our side. And when we reach heaven one day and see Jesus face to face, at long last, our feet will be straight. We’ll be so enraptured by Him, I don’t think we’ll even notice!
