"Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey."
(ZECHARIAH 9:9)

Hebrews 4:14-16

Would you want to see into the future? Scrooge found it quite unnerving to have a glance at his time to come. Because he’d shown no tenderness toward others, there was no affection toward him in his death. The Spirit of Christmas Yet to Come in the famed Dickens novel could only show him the real emotion of a couple having hope – that their merciless creditor was gone. How utterly dreadful for Scrooge!

The prophet Zechariah gave God’s people a glance into the future. However, his words about Jesus, spoken centuries before He was born, brought great rejoicing! The coming Savior would be upright, gentle, humble and approachable. Because of Jesus’ humility and tenderness, many would draw near and follow Him. Because of His saving work on the cross, lives would be changed forever.

The future does not have to be unnerving, even for someone fixed in selfishness as Scrooge was. The future can be filled with rejoicing when we keep our eyes on our humble, gentle Savior, the One who does know what’s ahead.
