“Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD from the heavens; praise him in the heights above. Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his heavenly hosts.”

Psalm 148:1-2
The Christmas angels made appearances to Zechariah, to Mary, to Joseph (repeatedly!), and then to the shepherds. Angels filled the normally quiet Bethlehem sky to announce in grand fashion to a band of lowly men that something big and extraordinary was happening in town. And they were present not only for the purpose of announcing good news. They were also sent by God to protect the baby King from a ruthless king. The angels were immensely important!

Present at the dawn of creation (Job 38:7), angels themselves were created by and for Christ (Colossians 1:16). Though spirits, they sometimes don human form to accomplish earthly missions. They do not die. They seem to have supernatural power, emotion, intellect, and will. There are countless numbers of them who serve in a variety of roles in Scripture.

So when they appeared in massive number in the Bethlehem sky that night, they gave the shepherds the shock of their lives. But they also did what they were always intended to do: worship God. Let’s worship the Christ child with the angels!
