“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water…. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

Jeremiah 17:7-8
Trust is merited if the object of our trust is worthy. Think of times when you trusted in someone too soon, before knowing that person or before realizing he or she wasn’t reliable at all.

During the difficult times since my stroke when my trust in God has been challenged, He keeps pushing me back to the truths of Scripture, to what I know well of Him. My greatest need as a sinner is my need for a Savior, not for an able body or for steady finances.

Immediately after Adam and Eve sinned, God promised a Savior (Genesis 3:6, 15)—a promise He repeated (Isaiah 7:14, Isaiah 11:1, Jeremiah 23:5-6), even promising the location of the Savior’s birth (Micah 5:2) and the details of His death (Psalm 22).

God didn’t just make empty promises. He sent Jesus to die for us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). He conquered death for us by His resurrection from the dead (Matthew 28:6, Mark 16:6) so that if we have faith in Him, we stand without sin before God (2 Corinthians 5:21). Those are truths to base your trust on!
