"For where your heart is, there your treasure will be also."
(MATTHEW 6:21)

Mark 10:17-30
One day a promising young man approached Christ. All his life he had tried to keep the commandments in the hope of obtaining eternal life. Yet he knew something was missing. In his heart he believed that Jesus could tell him what he lacked. And he was right. Jesus told him there was only one thing standing between him and God … his wealth.

He said, “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” The man’s problem was not wealth, per se, but treasure. And treasure can be any number of things: a relationship, one’s status, the pursuit of a dream. Whatever the prized possession may be, the test is simple. Are you willing to give it up for good if that is what it takes to follow Jesus?

Jesus is infinitely more valuable than any other treasure. He promises that following Him will not be a futile pursuit, but will accomplish our greatest possible good. Why then are we so hesitant to relinquish our grip on our treasures? Let’s loosen that today.
