“Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Matthew 6:20-21
One day a promising young man approached Jesus. All his life he had tried to keep the commandments in the hope of obtaining eternal life. Yet he knew something was missing. In his heart he believed Jesus could tell him what he lacked. He was right! Jesus told him there was only one thing standing between him and God: his wealth.

Jesus said, “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me” (Mark 10:21). The man’s problem was not wealth, per se, but treasure, which can be any number of things: a relationship, social status, children, the pursuit of a dream, and so on. Whatever your prized possession, the test is simple. Are you willing to give it up for good if that is what it takes to follow Jesus?

Jesus Christ is infinitely more valuable than any other treasure. He promises that following Him will not be futile, but will accomplish our greatest possible good. Come to the One who gave all for you, not hesitating to relinquish your grip on your treasures.
