“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”

Ephesians 6:10-11

Collecting dust in my parents’ attic is a purple karate trophy. I won it competing in my first tournament when I was 12 years old. There I was, all geared up, sporting a light pink uniform, ponytail bobbing up and down. My opponent thought he had nothing to worry about, considering he was two years older and one belt higher than I. You would have thought I didn’t stand a chance. But as the final whistle blew, it happened: he dropped his guard just as I threw a punch, and much to my dismay, I knocked him out!

I can only imagine what David felt when he defeated Goliath with a little stone. David’s confidence in the power, presence, and promises of his God gave him the courage to face a giant. Every day we come up against giants. Left to ourselves, we wouldn’t stand a chance. But we have an Almighty Captain, the Lord Jesus, who is with us always. Through Him, we are more than conquerors (see Romans 8:37).

Put on His full armor and raise high your weapon of defense: the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God!
