“That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.”

Ecclesiastes 3:13
The Lord appeared to a number of people in the Bible while they were going about their daily work. Moses was tending sheep. Gideon was harvesting grain. Jesus called several of His disciples while they were fishing. The angel of Advent appeared to shepherds while they were watching their sheep. And after they visited the Christ child, they went back to their work.

We may think that to meet with God we need to climb a mountain, or go on a pilgrimage, or perform some special ritual which will put us in the right frame of mind. There is a place for intentional time set apart to focus on God, to concentrate on our relationship with Him and seek His will for our lives. But God also meets us where we are. His plan is not to make us all mystics or professional religious workers, but farmers and shepherds and teachers and tradesmen and office workers and parents who follow Him.

Christ came to redeem us in all of life. If He wants us to serve Him in our work, why should we be surprised that He should meet us there first?
