“God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?’”

Hebrews 13:5-6
I love traveling out on the sea because when I do so, I can disconnect from the busyness of everyday life and spend time with the Lord in His creation. There are no distractions or worries when I’m out on the water. On one particular trip, I was more intent on the refreshing than on the fishing. But wouldn’t you know it … the trip was filled with constant annoyances and problems. In fact, I was feeling more flustered and discouraged than when I had left! Then on our way home, the captain urged us to go to the front of the boat. There we watched a pod of Pacific gray whales surfacing right off our bow. Stunned, we all beheld their beauty as they traveled with us for the next five miles.

I sensed that the Lord gave me this moment to remind me that He saw me in my stress and was still with me. Have you had a moment like that? You feel overwhelmed and beaten down, but then some strikingly beautiful thing presents itself. The Lord knows your troubles. He promised to send us the Spirit—our comforter and counselor—to remain with us.
