"I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!"
(Galatians 2:21)

Galatians 2:16-21
My father joined the Marine Corps during World War 2 when he was 17 years old. Like so many of his generation, he has seldom shared about his battle experiences, but I know that he paid a heavy price emotionally which shaped the rest of his life. At that tender age, he witnessed many of his fellow Marines laying down their lives in service to their country, and he wrestled over the considerable value of their sacrifice weighed against the price of freedom.

Paul told the Galatian people that they had been freed by God’s grace. He saw how they had relied solely on the inestimable value of the sacrificial death of Christ for freedom from their sins. It was enough! But their freedom was brought into question by legalists who devalued Christ’s sacrifice. They insisted that the price of
freedom included the added tax of the law. In other words, they still owed something. It was as though Christ’s death was for nothing because they were trying to pay extra fees through adherence to the law!
