“In God we make our boast all day long, and we will praise your name forever.”

Psalm 44:8
When you pray to God, do you ever pray about God? Do your prayers consist only of crying out to Him, begging Him for immediate mercy, or pleading with Him to get you out of the mess you’re in?

You’ll notice that in the Lord’s school of prayer, the first thing that we’re taught to pray has nothing to do with us. This is a prayer to God and about God. How often do you pray like that?

Praying about ourselves and our life circumstances is good. Yet it seems to indicate where our priorities lie. In my own prayer life, I know that I’m quick to pray for myself, which isn’t always bad. I’m even quicker to pray for other people who are in need. And that’s not bad either. But how often do I pray God-centered prayers? Not often enough. In the Lord’s school of prayer, Jesus teaches us to adore God and His name and His glory before we move onto anything else pertaining to us and our needs.

Spend a little more time talking to God about God, like a teenager who is falling in love for the first time and talks adoringly of the one he loves.
