“The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Philippians 4:5b-6
Many of my incarcerated friends struggle with anxiety brought on by regret for the things they’ve done. Their anxiety increases with fear of the unknown as they face years behind bars.

Paul encouraged his friends in Philippi who struggled with anxiety to remember the Lord is near. When we’re anxious, we too can be encouraged by remembering the nearness of the Lord. Whatever causes our anxiety—financial woes, chronic illness, broken relationships, an uncertain future, incarceration—the Lord wants us to know that He is near.

Jesus entered our world for us, became one of us, died for us, and was raised for us. He sent the Spirit to us and is now beside the Father interceding for us. Wherever we are, whatever situation we face, no matter how difficult it might be, the Lord is at hand. He is near.

One of the best ways to experience the Lord’s nearness is through prayer. Bring Him all of your anxieties and requests. Thank Him for the good He already has given. Talk to Him like a little child talks to a loving parent. He’ll guard your heart.
