“Nathan replied to David, ‘Whatever you have in mind, do it, for God is with you.’”

1 Chronicles 17:2
If you need a fresh shot of confidence, this chapter in Chronicles is the perfect one to read. When we belong to our Lord, He is ever-present to affirm, guide, and hear us. The Lord assured David saying, “I have been with you wherever you have gone” (v. 8). Even though God denied David’s request to build the temple, David knew God’s sovereign will was supreme.

These lines make me recall several times in my own life where I’ve experienced this very truth. As a college student attending a conference, God moved my heart towards ministry through the book of Philippians. The Lord continued to steer my path, often reminding me of His presence.

Later when I was on Okinawa, we were told the radio broadcasting we were doing there would end after the 1972 reversion agreement. Yet God brought five additional years of radio ministry to me.

Like David, it takes many of us a whole lifetime to understand fully that God is with us, and He is in charge. He gives us freedom to do His will, lighting our path with the lamp of His faithful Word (see Psalm 119:105).
