“Continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have been known the holy Scriptures.”

2 Timothy 3:14-15a
Time flies. It seems like just yesterday that my kids were babies, and we were beginning to sing and repeat the words and truths of the Bible to them. I’m suddenly aware that their childhood days here in my home are numbered. My greatest hope for them is that they will grow up to walk with the Lord all their days, wherever that takes them.

Paul reminds Timothy that his upbringing was rich with instruction from the Scriptures and discipleship. From childhood, family members taught him the sacred writings (what we now call the Old Testament), which made him wise for salvation through faith in Jesus. Now Paul’s instruction is simple: continue.

Never doubt the power of God’s Word in the lives of our children. Whether you are a parent or a spiritual parent, a grandparent, an aunt, an uncle, or a friend, our children need the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit at work in their lives. You and I can be the instruments God uses, pointing them (and reminding ourselves!) to walk in the old paths laid out for us in the Bible.
