“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

1 John 1:9
Do you know what it feels like when sin is weighing you down? We can be like a little child moping around the house, irritable and out of sorts until he confesses his sin and mom or dad freely forgives him. Then joy and relief wash over the child, and it’s as if the sun has come out again.

When we do wrong, a kind of malaise that feels almost like homesickness comes over us. We are longing for the restoration of our relationship with the One we’ve sinned against: God. And we can’t really be happy until things are right between us.

It’s so wonderful to know that as soon as I realize my sin, I can stop and ask for God’s forgiveness. The burden is heavy, and the enemy of my soul would love to keep me weighed down with guilt and condemnation. But “owning” my sin loosens the hard knot I’ve felt inside from it. Confessing sin, guilt, and waywardness to Him brings immeasurable delight in the fact that He is faithful to forgive us every single time. Our Savior paid the price at the cross to make sure it was so.
