“‘Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?’ The expert in the law replied, ‘The one who had mercy…,’ Jesus told him, ‘Go and do likewise.’”

Luke 10:36-37
When she returned to England after more than a decade of missionary work in Asia, Alison thought she’d seen all the extreme poverty that she’d ever encounter. She thought her time on the mission field was over and that she would turn to research and study for a while. God had other plans. As Europe’s refugee crisis gathered pace, Alison watched reports of tens of thousands of refugees slowly making their way across borders. She saw many camping out on a landfill in northern France, hoping to cross one more ocean in search of safety. She wondered why nobody was going to their rescue.
Eventually, she knew that she had to act. She organized volunteers, gathered supplies, and traveled across the English Channel to deliver donations and work in the camp. Through it all, she has been reminded of some essential truths: that when people choose to live like Jesus, lives are transformed; that the compassion God instills within us has no expiration date. Is there a situation you can be used in to bring relief to others today?
