“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Philippians 4:6
Do you ever second-guess yourself and wonder if you’re doing a good job? When I cared for my dying mother-in-law and later for my husband Russ who had terminal cancer, I worried about my decisions. I especially fretted when the doctor suggested something Russ did not want to do.

Worry can cripple us. We focus on what ifs instead of viewing our situation calmly. We forget the God who created the universe calls us His children in Jesus. We act as if everything depends on our efforts rather than on our Savior’s faithfulness.

God’s Word tells us not to be anxious—a command easier said than done. But when God gives a command, He also tells us how to fulfill it. We’re to pray with thanksgiving and give Him our requests. When we hand Him our anxious thoughts, He exchanges them for His peace. It’s a peace not created by human effort, and it stands guard over our emotions and thoughts. It’s far beyond our understanding because it comes from Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Worry traded for peace? Now that’s the best exchange ever!
