“Do not test the LORD your God as you did at Massah.”

Deuteronomy 6:16
Our God can be relied on. Every breath we take, every bite of food we eat, every circumstance that keeps us alive and thriving is evidence of His constant, providential care. Yet we so easily become discontented and doubtful.

In the desert, the people of Israel quickly jumped from “We’re thirsty!” to “Is God really with us?” In tempting Jesus, Satan escalated things saying, “If God is with you, you should be able to demand a miracle.”

Admittedly, we are skeptical people, inclined to doubt what we cannot see. We also often act entitled, thinking that since we’re Christians God should not allow hard times or tragedy to befall us. Perhaps the hardest part about trusting in God to care for us is believing that He has our best interests at heart. He has given us the most profound, real, visible, historic miracle we could ever ask for. It came to us in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He meets our greatest need in overcoming sin and death. If He provides for us eternally, we can trust Him with our daily needs too.
