“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

Philippians 4:6
Sometimes we give an inordinate amount of attention to the blessings we see others receiving. In time, we covet the things we perceive to be given without restraint to everyone but us. This sort of thinking can put us in a terrible downward spiral, even justifying our thoughts because we feel the Lord simply has not been fair to us.

If I have learned anything through difficult seasons like this in my own life, it is that I am not God, and I am not the one in control. It is the height of arrogance to assume that in my limited (and often wrong!) understanding, I can divine out why I should have what everyone else has. God may be teaching me by withholding a blessing. And at the same time He may be teaching someone else by giving it to them in full measure.

If ever there was a person we could listen to who is telling us to put our focus on Jesus—the One who is our portion—it would be Paul. Paul witnessed God’s provision for him during immensely hard times. He urges us to trust that God will supply all of our needs as well.
