“The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”
Proverbs 18:10
Our trust in God grows as we learn more of Him. Spending time with Him—speaking with Him throughout the day, reading His Word regularly— builds a loving relationship of trust and obedience. I’ve found it exhilarating to start the day with God, to wake up and find my first thoughts are of Him and of the plans He has for me.
But our days are not like sealed-up packages, protected from outside influences. In fact, we are vulnerable to unexpected events that make chaos out of our schedules. We find we must be sensitive to others’ needs, open to comments which offend us, and ready to make amends where we have failed.
We do this by trusting in and running to our strong tower, Jesus Christ. He promises us in Psalm 37:4 that when we delight ourselves in Him, He will give us the desires of our heart. His Word tells us to carry one another’s burdens (see Galatians 6:2). His Word reminds us that when “we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us” (1 John 1:9). And His Word assures us that when we run to Him, we are safe.
