“Jesus sent him away, saying, ‘Return home and tell how much God has done for you.’ So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.”

Luke 8:39
I love the Bible’s stories of the gospel emerging through the ugliness and messiness of life. That’s what we see in the account of Jesus healing the demon-possessed man. Jesus had just arrived on shore with His disciples, crossing the lake from Galilee through the raging, stormy waters. He stepped out of the boat and went directly to a man who had terrified many in the town. The crazed man fell at Jesus’ feet, and the demon in him yelled, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?” (v. 28).

The story records how Jesus delivered the man from the evil spirit possessing him. Residents came and saw him “sitting at Jesus’ feet, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid” (v. 35).

In an age when belief in God is growing rare, never underestimate what the Lord is capable of doing in a person’s life. In one brief encounter, Jesus took a man who was violent and far from hope, and He changed him forever. There he was now—seated, suited, and sane, redeemed by the Savior who came and sought him out.
