“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.”

Romans 8:1-2
Since my stroke several years ago, I focus my attention more often than I like to admit on the perceived, temporary problem of the moment (especially in the extremely slow rehabilitation process) rather than on the glorious truths and results of the gospel.

The crowds on Palm Sunday cried out in praise to Jesus because some of them thought He entered Jerusalem to save them from their perceived problem of the moment; Roman occupation of the city. It’s interesting to think that some of these same people a few days later likely were part of the crowd before Pilate that called for Jesus’ crucifixion.

In calling for Jesus’ death, the crowd didn’t realize that His death was how He would save His people, not from a temporary problem but from eternal condemnation (which all of us deserve because of our sins).

Try not to focus on the perceived, temporary problems of the day, losing sight of why Jesus conquered death. It was for all of us who come to Him in faith, who have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (see Romans 3:23-25 and Romans 8:1).

Help me, Lord, to glory in being saved from eternal condemnation by Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, and not to focus my attention on perceived needs. Amen
