“I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.”

Ezekiel 36:26-27
Wait! Don’t turn the page!

This is not a lesson pointing out that you’re not doing a good enough job in life. If any page this month should encourage you, it’s this one. Don’t believe me? Keep reading.

Sanctification is a big word. To put it simply, it is the process that happens between conversion and death whereby we become people who are more and more like Jesus. In truth, we are becoming more like Him in everything we do. And, yes, that even means we will become less prone to sin and temptation.

But there is a point of utmost importance to consider: it is not our responsibility to grow ourselves into the likeness of Christ. The biggest mistake we could make is to think we can get better on our own strength and willpower. No, we must realize the only way we can really become more like Christ is to have His Spirit in us, changing us. Take comfort that your on-and-off-again efforts, your uphill battles, and your treadmill of “doing” are not what transform.

Rather than praying you will be a better person, pray for the Spirit to sanctify you.
