“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16
Though I grew up going faithfully to Sunday school, it was hard for me to understand exactly what I was being saved from when the teacher taught us how we all need to be saved by Jesus. I never realized we were in very much danger in the first place!

In order to know that the gospel is good, we must first know that Jesus is saving us from something completely damning. In truth, we are being saved from ourselves. Because if it were up to us, we would go on sinning and rebelling against God, considering ourselves to be our own saviors. We would live as prideful and arrogant people, ungrateful for the One who created us and sacrificed Himself on the cross to save us. That description can sound alarmingly familiar, right?

We must admit that we are a sinful, guilty, and fallen people who have disobeyed God with our whole hearts. Without the perfect gift of grace that we are given by Jesus’ death on the cross, we would most certainly perish and miss out on the righteousness of God. Accept Christ’s gift of salvation and an eternity with Him.
