“This is my comfort in my affliction, that Your word has revived me.”
Psalm 119:50 (New American Standard Version)
As I write these devotionals, I’m spending time with a dear friend who keeps prolonged vigil over his dying wife. It’s been a strain on the family’s energy, strength, and spirit. There’s little that I, of myself, can do to revive them. But I can share rich, comforting truths of God’s Word. “The Sovereign LORD has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary” (Isaiah 50:4). “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word” (Hebrews 1:3).
And what does this Word promise? “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall” (Psalm 55:22). “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; … they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:29-31).
God’s Word is real in our lives and has the power to revive us on our journey.
