“When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind.”

Mark 5:15
When you live at lower elevations and hike at much higher elevations, you run the risk of getting altitude sickness. As the level of oxygen available in the air decreases, you may begin to experience loss of energy, shortness of breath, disorientation, and mental fogginess.

I witnessed this firsthand while hiking with a friend above 10,000 feet. As the day progressed, my friend became so ill that he couldn’t eat, had trouble walking, and was mentally confused. When we turned back and headed for lower elevations, his symptoms subsided. Mercifully, the lower we went, the better he felt. To say that he was grateful we’d turned around was an understatement!

Jesus shows us He has power over everything, whether it be the forces of nature or demonic forces that seek to torment people. In Mark we see that when Jesus rescues us, we are truly restored, in body and soul. Our response to Jesus is much like my friend’s sense of relief; we are filled with gratitude and joy at the renewal that comes through being saved by Him.
