“My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.”

1 Corinthians 2: 4-5
The Apostle Paul is making a stunning point, that despite his human delivery of the gospel, God’s Spirit and power go before him, making it clear that a person’s life of faith is a response to God’s power, not a response to a human being bearing the message. Often we gravitate towards the deliverer more than the message itself. Paul wants us to remember that we rest on the power of the Holy Spirit—not human wisdom.
How amazing is that? The supernatural presence of the Holy Spirit is at work in you and me! Remember that God’s very Word was written by the Holy Spirit. “Men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:21). The powerful God of the entire Universe has seen fit to move in you and dwell in you through the Holy Spirit. Just try to take that in!
There are pastors, speakers, authors, and seminar leaders who may win you over to Christ. But your faith must not rest in them. We all have seen even our finest spiritual leaders fall. Rest instead on God’s power and unfailing love for you.
