“How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. … I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”

Psalm 119:9, 11
Idrissa was schooled only in mystical arts, mixing occult enchantments with Muslim traditions for evil intent. He tried to cast a spell on a Christian evangelist who visited his town, but to no effect. “When I encountered the power of Jesus Christ, I was surprised to see that this power has no comparison,” he said. The evangelist later explained the gospel to him and gave him an audio Bible. God’s Word transformed Idrissa’s life. “The Lord Jesus started to change me. I started to hate mystical and devilish things, and I repented of all the sins I had done,” he said. He has since learned to read and write, has attended a Bible school, and now serves in ministry.

When we come to Jesus—whether radically like Idrissa or more gradually—we can sing these hymn words: “Thy Word is a lamp to my feet,/ A light to my path alway,/ To guide and to save me from sin,/ And show me the heav’nly way./ Thy Word have I hid in my heart,/ That I might not sin against Thee” (Ernest O. Sellers, 1908).

Come to Jesus in your heart. Abide with Him in His Word.
