“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Romans 8:28
Recently I was reading Romans 4, which tells how Abraham’s faith did not waver concerning the promises of God. In his old age Abraham was promised a child and a family of descendants which would outnumber the stars. I caught myself thinking that it was easier for Abraham than for me because I did not have a particular promise like his on which to rely. But the moment that thought surfaced, God convicted me of my error.

The Lord reminded me that in the aftermath of my stroke, I did indeed have a particular promise from Him. It’s the guarantee that He is working out all things in my life for good and for His purposes.

You may face circumstances that have left you feeling empty, abandoned, helpless, or disappointed. You have a promise to cling to: everything you’ve been through and are still going through has happened for good. Your hard or devastating situations are consistent with God’s purposes, including the ultimate purpose that He would be glorified (see Isaiah 48:11). Bring your trials to the Lord in prayer.
