“Yet [Abraham] did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”

Romans 4:20-21
When I put my focus on how discouraging my circumstances seem, it’s hard to trust God and His promises.

Think about Abraham. God called him to leave his home and go to a land God would show him. God promised to make him a great nation though he had no children and would grow very old waiting for one. Later, when Abraham’s trust wavered, God repeated His promise saying his descendants would be like the stars in the sky (Genesis 15:4-6). Even after he wavered again (16:1-3), Abraham miraculously trusted God and was blessed with his promised son at the age of nearly 100 years old (Romans 4:19, Genesis 21:1-5).

Not only was God faithful to His promises, He also gave Abraham the strength to trust Him when God told him to sacrifice his only son, Isaac (Genesis 22:1-12). Just imagine being completely certain in that moment of God’s good plans and purposes!

When you struggle to trust God, remember that He is in control, keeps His promises in His own way and time, and will provide you with what you need to trust Him.
