“The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous. … By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.”

Psalm 19:9b, 11
Focusing on the power of God’s Word keeps us from stumbling, falling, and failing. “Those who love your law have perfect security, and there is nothing that can make them fall” (Psalm 119:165).

This came to mind some time ago when I was in a public, two-story building and there was a commotion near the down-escalator. People were helping a man who had stumbled when he mistakenly thought he was stepping onto the up-escalator. He’d been texting while he was walking and therefore didn’t see the danger in front of him. His lack of focus was at that moment literally his downfall.

Our lives can be like that when we do not have the comforting, governing, guiding Word of God at the center. I read of some builders who were constructing a bridge across a bay but ignored the reference point. They came to the middle of the bridge and found that the two ends were 15 feet apart. How important that point of reference is!

Our reference point as believers in Jesus Christ is the Word of God, given to us out of His great love for us.
