“I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.”

Luke 15:7
Our lives are a series of choices, and usually within each choice lie more choices. Over and over we must evaluate what is wise, what is foolish, or (hardest of all) what is the least harmful option.

As sinful human beings, we are prone to picking the more foolish option, especially if we think it benefits us. Often years of our lives are eaten away by our poor choices. We can’t help but see the painful gaps full of the possibilities that never saw the light of day.

Is there a way to get that time back? No. However, those years were not necessarily wasted. Even scorched fields can, in time, yield fruit. God is too merciful to make us happy with our sinful state, and He is good to leave our black years barren. Each wasted day is still a testament to His faithfulness. Each month, year, or decade speaks to His patience with willful children and lost souls.

Do not fret about spoiled years that were squandered living selfishly. He will redeem them so that in His good providence they sing out His praises in the end.
