“And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”

Colossians 3:14
Shortly after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, chaplains were mobilized from public service agencies throughout the nation. Within weeks, the federal agency I served with called, asking me to connect with special agents who had worked in the rubble of the World Trade Center. The conversations that followed—heartbreaking as they were—focused on God’s love and healing.

Whether we admit it or not, we are vulnerable when confronted with crisis events. We need a safe place to go, someone who can share in our brokenness and assurance of hope.

Healing is found in the agape love of Jesus. It must be evident in the body of Christ and carried into relationships—more often than not, to people who are broken, lonely, and in need of peace. Paul tells us of God’s forgiveness and instructs us to forgive others. All of this is bound together with Christ’s agape love for this world. And we are commanded to pursue it!

The agape love of Jesus swept over the lives of my law enforcement friends, granting inner peace and restoration.
