“He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.”

Psalm 1:3
What does prospering look like? It’s not primarily wealth, status, popularity, fame, or success. It has to do with wholeness—a state of abundance, goodness, blessing, health, and security. It is spiritual, pertaining to the soul.

Prosperity is productive; we yield “fruit” in season. The prosperous person has an abundant supply of fruit and is a constant blessing to others.

Prosperity is stability; our “leaf” does not “wither.” The prosperous person bears fruit and blooms in all kinds of circumstances. She is not conformed or chained to the accidents, misfortunes, and sins of her life. Rather, those become stepping stones to the means of grace.

Prosperity is serenity; God guides us in all we do. The prosperous person has inner peace, a deep confidence that God will use whatever he offers and experiences for good. He sees with the soul, not the eyes.

Prosperity comes from the power of God’s Word. We rejoice in that Word and in our God who meets all of our needs “according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
