“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your requests to God. And the peace of God ... will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7
A newspaper article heading read as follows: “Sentenced to 99 Years to Life.” It was describing me. I was arrested at 22. Two-and-a-half years later I was convicted and transferred to my first prison yard. What now? I thought.
I was a broken young man who’d made horrible choices. I felt completely lost. In my early days of fighting my case, I accepted Jesus but still decided to do things on my own terms. That didn’t last long. I found myself in the hole with another life sentence looming over my head, realizing how bad off I was. With nowhere else to go, I went to God.
Many of us have similar stories. We run from God, desperately searching for peace. Many seek it, but very few find it. God met me at the lowest point in my life. There He revealed to me where true peace lies: in Jesus!
God comes to us in our weakest moments and uses them to fix our eyes on Him. All looks terrifying, but He bathes us in His peace. Are you in a difficult place in your life? Pray and believe. Let the peace of God guard your heart and mind through Jesus.
