“Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

Ecclesiastes 4:12
John Donne authored the poem “No Man is an Island” 400 years ago, and his words are as true now as when he wrote them. We need each other as we fulfill God’s purposes for us.

Even Jesus, in His humanity, sought the prayer of friends as He faced the sorrow of His imminent arrest and crucifixion. In His hour of need, He brought three of His disciples to the Garden of Gethsemane to watch and pray with Him. But they fell asleep as He prayed. “‘Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour?’ he asked Peter” (Matthew 26:40).

God may call us to tasks beyond our natural abilities. When my husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, I wondered how I could care for him when my own emotions about it all were so fragile. I needed to rely on the Holy Spirit’s power. I also needed to seek out other Christians for ongoing prayer.

Caregiving is a God-sized task requiring the aid of others. Practical help is welcomed, but enlist the prayers of others, too. Those prayers lifted up to the God who cares will see you through.
