“The earth is full of his unfailing love. By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.”

Psalm 33:5b-6
Outdoor enthusiasts will say that getting out into nature puts their lives into proper perspective. Others say it helps them see how insignificant their problems are in comparison to such a vast, beautiful world. Still others believe that when in nature, a person is overwhelmed with a sense of humility. While all of these hold some value, Scripture gives an infinitely better reason for what our view of the created order should be.

Psalm 33 calls all of humanity to fear and revere the Lord (v. 8), for He spoke the heavens, the seas, and all that is in between them into existence. This is the foundation upon which we are to understand God—as Creator. He uses His magnificent power to save those He loves, for “the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love” (v. 18).

We see the starry heavens, the magnificent sunrise or sunset, the splendor of wild creatures, and so on, and wonder about our place in this world. Look to the Bible, remembering that God made us and cares for us.
