“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.”

John 14:1
Something was changing, and the disciples were shaken. Jesus had been saying such strange things about a coming time of betrayal, about going away, and about His death. Troubling thoughts invaded their comfort zone. Couldn’t we just continue to heal the sick and feed the hungry? they may have been asking.

Jesus then pushes them to think beyond the present and past this material world. He tells them there is another kingdom, another world that He is going to. But He promises that He will come back for them so they would still be with Him. He offers comfort even though full understanding has not been attained. But He had gained their trust during their years together, and they could accept the peace that He extended to them.

Understanding is not essential in order to receive peace for our troubled souls. Acceptance and surrender have the reward of bringing calm even when the circumstances produce distress and anxiety. Fix your eyes on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of your faith. He will bring peace to your unsettled heart.
