“I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

Genesis 28:15
Scheming with his mother, Jacob cleverly tricked his father into giving him the blessing which was the birthright of his slightly-older twin brother, Esau. Once the blessing was bestowed, it could not be retracted. Esau hated his brother for this thievery and planned to kill him. So Jacob fled to the land of his mother’s relatives until Esau’s fury subsided. On that journey, he had an encounter with God. The Lord appeared, reminding Jacob of the promises He had made to his grandfather and father. Now those promises of blessing would be extended to him, a sinner exposed before the Almighty God.

Have you seen God’s hand of blessing in your life? You may have to look past hardships, failure, and disappointment. But His blessings remain. He watches over you and has promised He will never forsake you (see Deuteronomy 31:6).

If He walked alongside a conniving, lying man like Jacob, yet identified Himself throughout the Bible as “the God of Jacob,” He will walk alongside of you too. He looks beyond your sin and leads you to blessing.
