“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”

Ephesians 1:3
I’m an avid reader, and I see from the many books and articles I read that people experience life as much more of a curse than as a blessing (or at least that is what they write about!). But those stories do reflect the reality of lives tainted by abuse, neglect, isolation, fear, and many more soul-damaging things.

Consider the blessings that have mercifully entered your life. In Surprised by Joy, C.S. Lewis speaks of God as the “Hound of Heaven” chasing him down in order to bless him. Have you ever thought of the Lord in that way? After C.S. Lewis denied the very existence of God for many years, he bumped up against the goodness of a God in whom he hadn’t even believed. In that moment— that divinely appointed moment—he knelt and personally met the Creator of the universe.

Paul reminds us along with his friends in Ephesus of our spiritual blessings: being chosen, adopted, redeemed, and forgiven. He reminds us that God has given us wisdom and has revealed the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure. Count your blessings!
