“They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus, but Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the brothers to the grace of the Lord.”

Acts 15:39-40
The disagreement between Paul and Barnabas about a ministry partner was distinct enough to be included in the Bible. Reading about it leaves us with a bit of an uncomfortable yet strikingly real feeling. Humanity—then and now—shows itself in the everyday issues of life, doesn’t it?

This entire world sees more divisions now than possibly ever before. Our politics, our religions, and even our stance on vaccines separate us. Churches split, families distance themselves, husbands and wives divorce. Estrangement of every kind prevails as we pledge allegiance to the kingdom of this world.

Jesus clearly stated that His kingdom is not of this world. As believers, we are citizens of the Lord’s kingdom. This does not demand agreement in all the issues of life (or even in ministry), but it does require that we live under the law of love. In every human relationship, there are differences of opinion. Thankfully, by the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, we can live in peace with one another, allowing the light of Christ to shine through.
