“I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them.”

Exodus 3:7-8a
There are times when I have cried out to God, “Are you there? Do you even care? Why won’t you do anything?” Have you ever posed those questions to God? The Israelites, who were brutally enslaved to the Egyptians for 400 years, surely must have. It often feels like God is distant and unmoving in the midst of our suffering.

But nothing could be further from the truth. God had a plan to rescue His chosen people and to fulfill His every promise. Some of God’s first words to Moses were, “I see their misery…. And I have come to rescue them.” He drew near, and He acted on their behalf.

God has done the same for you. He acted by sending Jesus, whose death and resurrection rescued you from your slavery to sin. God entered into your life by sending His Spirit. He has not left you as an orphan but is with you in your suffering right now. When Jesus comes again, God will rescue you from suffering forever.

Put your own name into those verses: _____, I see your misery. I hear your cries. And, _____, I will come to rescue you.
