“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

2 Peter 3:9
A popular phrase for those wanting to lose weight and live healthy is “Remember your why.” The idea is that you must remember the reason for your goal in order to actually reach your goal.

As a Christian, I often grow apathetic towards God’s goal and focus on this world instead. I put my hope in my children, my accomplishments, my next meal out, and so on. When this happens, I need to remember “God’s why.”

So why are we still here on Earth? Why hasn’t Jesus returned yet? It’s because God is accomplishing His mission to bring the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ to the whole world (Matthew 24:14). This mission isn’t something God is just checking off His “to do” list. He is invested because He wants everyone to come to repentance. Incredibly, God uses you and me to accomplish this. Your testimony to what Jesus has done is the means by which others are saved.

When we remember God’s mission and our role in it, our hearts awaken to something much greater than our temporal goals. “God’s why” becomes our “why” too.
